Overview: What is web content management and how do content authors and editors use a WCM solution on SharePoint to manage content? In this module we will explore the WCM features from a content author’s perspective and talk about the main WCM features.

11:00 – 12:30 Session 2 The Importance of User Experience
Overview: What should we as designers and implementers of a WCM solution be thinking about from a user experience perspective? Why does user experience even matter and how does it differ between and internal facing solution to a public internet facing site?
12:30 – 13:30 Lunch
13:30 – 15:00 Session 3 Create a WCM site from Scratch – Master Pages and Branding
Overview: In this module we will start the journey of developing a WCM solution on SharePoint from scratch. This will cover how to create a new master page for tour site, and how to go about branding the site using the master page and style sheets. This will be followed by a hands-on exercise.
15:00 - 15:30 Refreshment Break
15:30 - 18:00 Session 4 Create a WCM site from Scratch – Navigation, Page Layouts and Field Controls
Overview: Now that we have a master page with custom branding, we look at creating new page layouts (templates) and adding authoring Field Controls to them. In this module we will explore adding navigation to the site and how to control the branding and functionality of the navigation. This will be followed by a hands-on exercise.

Overview: There are a few web parts which you will user often in a WCM solution. This includes the content query web part and the content editor web part. We will talk about how to use these effectively. This will be followed by a hands-on exercise.

10:30 - 12:00 Session 6 Forms Based Authentication
Overview: What is the difference between forms based authentication and Windows authentication? How do I implement forms based authentication in my WCM solution so that customers, partners and employees can log into the web site and gain access to premium content? This will be followed by a hands-on exercise
12:00 - 13:00 Lunch
13:00 - 14:30 Session 7 Enhance your Site with Social Technologies
Overview: Blogs, wikis, discussion forums and user profiles can all be used to add a “socialness” to your web sites. In this module we will cover these scenarios. Once again, followed by a hands-on exercise.
14:30 - 15:30 Refreshment Break
15:30 - 17:00 Session 8 Performance Tips and Tricks
Overview: Page weight, HTTP compression, various caching techniques can all make significant difference to the performance and scalability of your web site. In this module we will cover the tips and tricks in making your WCM web site more performant. Followed by a hands-on excerise.
